A bit pricey but well worth it for a one-and-done fine dining experience in San Diego. One of the rare instances where the high prices are justified by the quality of the food. I don't mean to use pretentious buzz words but this place seriously knows what they're doing with the flavor profiles. Every ingredient is mixed and matched perfectly. I heavily recommend the beef carpaccio to start as that was so good. Id also go for their main courses rather than their pasta because they give you VERY TINY portions when it comes to their pastas. Although, I have heard that they're delicious. The rabbit one in particular. And oh my gosh you have to get the date cake dessert. That was INSANE

We were able to get a same day reservation on a Wednesday. We had our choice of inside or out when we got there. We chose outside and were seated right away. They have a beautiful patio space that while it's outside, you are away from the street. We were greeted quickly. Our server was very nice and gave us good suggestions throughout the evening. Their wine by the glass menu was small, but had good options. The red wine however was probably the most expensive I have seen anywhere in SD recently. I went with the Tempranillo, which was a good choice. I was with one other person, and neither of us had eaten there before, so we decided to go with all appetizers and vegetables, so we could try more things. Most were the recommendations of our server, but were things we had been considering as well. The Sicilian Crudo was with tuna that day. It was delicious. It was fresh and light, with just a hint of spice. The beef carpaccio is almost hard to explain. There was a sense of heaviness with the onion dip and parmesan, but at the same time, it was light with the arugula. It was amazing. The pork belly was so tender, and I loved the mustard flavors. It was flavorful without being overwhelming. The roasted baby carrots were probably the most surprising. A lot of times carrots can be overcooked or blah, but these still had a nice crunch, and the flavors were out of this world. If I could give a 1/2 star off, it might be for the food runner. He dumped the plates off, and told us what they were while walking away. It just seemed awkward in comparison to our pleasant server. Overall though, it is a beautiful restaurant with rock star food. I was almost hoping I wouldn't like it as much because I can't eat there all the time. We actually overheard the table next to us (visitors to SD) say they came last night, but had to come again because it was so good. I look forward to returning and hopefully trying some of the entrees and desserts (which looked to die for).

My husband and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night while we were visiting San Diego. We'd previously visited their sister restaurant, Herb and Sea and enjoyed it a lot, so had high expectations for Herb and Wood. The ambiance here is trendy and upscale. It's a large restaurant with indoor dining and another enclosed area that is not quite outdoors, but very airy. Our service was friendly and attentive. He gave us a few very good recommendations. We ordered six dishes between us, one dish too many. I left feeling pretty stuffed. For appetizers, we shared the sicilian crudo, king trumpet mushrooms, and tuna tartare. Everything was flavorsome yet refreshing. My husband had the branzino for his main and I had the eggplant for mine. Both were delicious. Neither of us had any complaint about the food here. Would recommend if you're in San Diego and want to try Mediterranean food with a Californian slant.

This place has been on my list for a long time. Upscale Mediterranean? Sign me up. Overall, flavors were good but I won't be rushing back. We came for my birthday celebration on a Fri. We made reservations and got seated right on time. We got a negroni and the bourbon & buzz (nixta, Drambuie, honey, egg white and bee pollen). I had originally ordered the h&w negroni but it was made with mezcal which ended up being too smokey for me so I asked for another drink and our waiter happily got me the standard one. For food we ordered: Roasted Baja shrimp: soooo good. The flavors were all complementary and the wheat bread underneath was a hearty bread that could really soak in all the flavors. Baba ganoush: probably one of the best versions I've ever had. There were a variety of textures and the brightness from the mojo de ajo and pickled peppers were really refreshing. The pita, even though only one piece, was denser and perfectly paired with the dish. Seven spice caulini: the cauliflower hummus on the bottom was just alright for me. Almost no flavor. But the dish together ate well and the spices were great. Eggplant: the muhammara on the bottom and the pomegranate molasses make this dish. Otherwise the eggplant was steamed(?) and just didn't have any flavor. Even if they had just charred it or something, that would have helped the dish. King trumpet mushrooms: my partner loves mushrooms and loved this dish. The garlic vinaigrette and chimichurri worked so well with the roasted mushrooms. For my birthday they gave a complimentary scoop of spumoni ice cream on a bed of nuts served with an almond cookie. Super yummy!
